FWS - Block 50

It's 1am, and I've just finished my third FWS block for the week. Two more to make on the weekend, and I'll have reached my quota again :-)

Block 50 - Honey's Choice

Block Total: 99

It's a cute block isn't it? I could see an entire quilt made up using this pattern. Perhaps I'll add it to my VERY long list of quilts I'd like to make.

Better get to bed - today will be a big day - it's Amy's formal (prom for my US friends). There is a tight schedule of hair and makeup followed by photos and then the big event. Wish us luck! Chatter soon xox

Hexies :-)

Just working on some hexagons while watching Wimbledon. Ahhh the serenity ...

FWS Block 37

Here is this evening's handy work. I pieced this block using freezer paper - the funny little shapes make me nervous - so freezer paper is the nicest way to tame those bias edges :-)

Block 37 - Flower Pot

Block Total: 98

Won't be long now and I'll be into triple digits, then I'll really know I'm on the home stretch. I truly wish I hadn't left so many of the trickier blocks to last - some of them will be tough going.

Tomorrow I'll share where I'm at with my hexagon piecing - I'm finding them completely addictive - super fun! Chatter soon :-)

FWS Block 78

As I hoped, I did manage to get the FWS block made this evening. Three words: Bulky Seam Intersections! In two areas, there are nine fabrics intersecting - just about need a hammer to flatten them out :-)

Block 78 - Shooting Star

Block Total: 97

Time for me to make lunches and head to bed. Though I may be tempted to stay up late and watch Wimbledon. Must resist ... if I watch too long I'll be kicking myself in the morning ...

Lucky Me!!

A huge thank you to my wonderful friend Linda, I received a fabulous parcel in the mail today. I feel very lucky indeed :-)

First up, these wonderful conversational fat quarters. Linda knows I snap these fabrics up any time I see them, and they are always reserved for my most special of quilts (like my Turning Four-T). (Apologies for the poor quality I-Phone pictures)

And next up, a couple of my favourite quilt magazines, and the most enormous collection of rail fence blocks for our exchange. Linda must have been sewing for days! I can't wait to start playing with lay-outs. I need to make more blocks, I don't want to fall too far behind!

I just love all the fabrics Linda has used, she has the most amazing stash of reproduction fabrics, I have stash envy :-)

It's just after 9pm here, but I'm printed out a Farmers Wife block ready to stitch before I head to bed. I don't really feel like sewing tonight, but I'm loathe to lose my momentum. Does anyone else ever feel that way? Chatter soon! xox

Hexagons

I truly never thought I would become so addicted to English paper piecing. And if it wasn't for Mrs Billings Coverlet, I may not even have tried the technique. No turning back now, I'm hooked!

Another goal reached :-)

I'm so pleased I got all five FWS blocks made this week, I wasn't sure I'd get them done. It really feels like I'm drawing close to the finish line now. I'd love it if I can have the whole top done before the end of the school holidays, Wonder if I can do it?

Block 107 - Windblown Square

Block 93 - Swallow

Block 94 - Tall Pine Tree

Block 96 - Tulip

Block Total: 96

This afternoon I'll be taking care of chores again - it's amazing how fast the housework piles up. Then this evening I'll have a little time to myself, and I might work on some hexagons again. I'll share pictures of progress soon - they're kinda slow going :-)

Big Week!

This has been such a busy week - the most important aspect being Camo's birthday yesterday. Can you believe my little man is 10 already? Where did that time go?!? We're having a birthday celebration on Saturday for his little friends, and then a family gathering on Sunday. Sewing time will be precious indeed!

In Farmers Wife news, I've made another block, a fun one to put together.

Block 74 - Ribbons

Block Total: 92

And for a fun diversion, I made some more of the rail fence blocks. To see how it looks, I arranged a few on the floor just now. It's really funny, I have a hard time telling which ones I made and which ones Linda made. We have very similar taste in fabric.

I have a few chores to do this evening, and then I think I might put a few hexagons together - I can't believe how addictive those little things are!

Chatter soon! xox

Whew, made my quota!

And I made it two days early. I made up the three blocks from the recent weeks shortfall, and I made the five blocks for this week. Whew! I can do whatever I want this weekend :-)

Here are the two blocks I made this evening:

 Block 49 - Honeycomb

Block 65 - Peaceful Hours

Block Total: 91

Block 65 was really fun to put together, and isn't it pretty? I could easily see a whole quilt made from it - no curved seams, but the overall impression would be like circles of flowers.

Only 20 blocks left to assemble now. However, I do need to draw up a diagram of my layout and determine if I need any extra blocks - I am going to make my quilt the length of the twin size, but square. I may need two extra blocks - we'll see.

Alrighty, I'm going to get ready for night-nights, and who knows what I'll be sharing on the weekend. xox

The next three ...

Oh my goodness, are you bored yet with these blocks? I know it can't be that interesting seeing them over and over, but I promise it won't be long and I'll be done with them :-)

But here are my next three anyway:

 Block 46 - Hill & Valley

 Block 52 - Hovering Hawks

Block 53 - Jackknife

Block Total: 89

I'll complete two more on the weekend, and then there will only be 20 left to make. Some of the remaining blocks are tricky ... why do I always do this? *lol*

Three FWS Blocks

Over the last two days, I've put together another three FWS blocks. I'd like to get another five made by Sunday to get me up to date - I can do it, I know I can!

Block 60 - Noon & Light

Block 63 - Ozark Maple Leaf

Block 99 - W.C.T.U

Block Total: 86

In other news, I think I'm on the trail of the person who made the quilt in the last post. A lovely lady named Lola emailed me to say that she thinks it was made by Mary Hitchens, and after a little 'googling' I've found a picture on another blog that displayed the maker info. Hopefully I can be in touch with her soon. Thank you Lola :-) xox

Can You Help??

I took this photo of a quilt I ADORED at the Australasian Quilter's Convention in Melbourne, and I cleverly (or not so cleverly) neglected to note the name of the maker.

I'm just in love with hexies right now and this quilt really caught my eye. I'm very keen to reproduce it in some form, likely in 30's prints (you've seen my tentative beginning) - and obviously I would like to give credit where credit is due.

So, if anyone knows the clever person who made this quilt, would you mind passing their details on? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you friends! :-)

FWS - Block 97

Late Saturday night I put another FWS block together. This made my quota of five for the week. And my thinking was that I'd easily be able to put another three blocks together yesterday, and that would make up my shortfall for the week before. Hah!

Saturday night my ear felt a little itchy, and on Sunday morning it was really sore. I took myself off to the doctor who diagnosed an ear infection, and sent me home with antibiotics. Ear infections are icky, and it feels like Snap, Crackle and Pop are dancing around in my head. So, the upshot is that I was feeling sorry for myself and I haven't even entered the sewing room. Don't I sound miserable? *lol* But I wouldn't worry though, what it has meant is uninterrupted lounge time, and I've been entirely in control of the TV remote ... and that doesn't happen often! If you could see me now, I'm in my jim-jams, and I have a knitted scarf wrapped around my head - quite comical really :-)

But anyway, here is my latest block:

Block 97 - Waste Not

Block Total: 83

I'd like to put another block together this evening - but right now I'm trying to garner enough sympathy that DH will go out in search of dinner. I'll just keep my feet up :-)

Latest FWS Blocks

Here are my two latest FWS blocks. One having been made yesterday, and one this evening. I'm really feeling like the finish line is drawing nearer, and it's really exciting :-)

Block 104 - Wild Geese

Block 105 - Wild Goose Chase

Block Total: 82

Today was a lovely day, I had a small group of ladies visit for our FWS sewing day. Loz, Shay and Claire. Ironically, not one of us ended up working on our blocks, mostly we chattered and snacked! Thank you for visiting girls, and see you next month :-) xox

FWS Collage

I made another block this morning ... so it's 81 down, and 30 to go! I'm on a roll!!

The newest block is in the bottom right hand corner - it's block 104 - Wild Geese.

High Drama & A Small Special

Oh my goodness, that certainly took some messing around. The host that was looking after my website was hacked and my dear little tiny website got entirely messed up with a v.i.r.u.s. Oh my goodness, don't people have better things to do with their time?? Apparently it wasn't just my site, but I decided to pack my toys up and head on over to a better and much more reliable host. Thank heavens! I even needed to enlist the help of my own tech support (hubby) and everything is working just fine now.

So, to celebrate the fact that tazziequilts.com is finally back on the air (and help support my new website payments) I'm offering a pattern sale for June & July. My Simple Tree Skirt pattern is $5.00 for a pdf purchase.

A big thank you to everyone that emailed me with a heads-up about the problem, and thank you also to those of you that have been so understanding waiting for me to get back on line again! xox

Quilter's ADD

On Monday I got busy in the sewing room, and put together another two Farmers Wife Sampler blocks. I'm so enjoying working on them, and can't wait to get some more put together.

Block 55 - Linoleum

Block 88 - Star of Hope

Block Total: 80

And because I was on a roll, I put together a couple more of the rail fence blocks. I need to make a total of 99 blocks, and I think I've made 36 now ... getting there :-)

It's fun playing with all the reproduction squares of fabric I got from Somerset Patchwork & Quilting. It's possible that I may run out of the 10" squares before I'm finished, so I'll have to attack my stash ... *horror*

And here is a little something that I've been working on over a couple of months. I know ... not much to share for that amount of time, but these are the paper pieced hexagons that live in my handbag. I finally finished the second row last night while visiting with Lizzy, and I'm now thinking about what fabric to use for the next round.

This project was inspired by one I saw at the AQC in Melbourne. I really wish I knew who made it - if anyone knows who made the lovely hexagon quilt in reproduction fabrics, please let me know :-)

Who would have thought that hexagons would be so addictive, I had no clue. These hexies are 3/4" size, and I'm just loving the 30's prints for something different.

Well, I better get some chores done, so I'll check back in later xox

Just two this past week.

With everything that has been going on family wise over the past week, I have barely darkened the door of the sewing room. I managed to put a block together last night, but prior to that, I hadn't even turned my sewing machine on since last Sunday. Very strange for me indeed. Maybe this week I'll make up for it, but who knows. No pressure :-)

Here are my two blocks, they're trickier than many others, and I'm not thrilled with the second one. There are a couple of seams that don't match up to my satisfaction, and I may come back to it later and finish it a little better.

Block 33 - Farmer's Puzzle

Block 36 - Flower Garden Path

Block Total: 78

I plan to spend some time in the sewing room today, so here's hoping I get some work done!
