Made the quota ...

I'm glad I had the chance to put these blocks together this evening. All feels right in the world when I can achieve my goals in some form.

Block 39 - Friendship

Block 40 - Friendship Block

Block Total: 76

I'm going to do some machine quilting over the next few days, so I'll check back in when I have something fun to share. xox

Three FWS Blocks

So, this week I've been a bit of an under-achiever in the sewing room. I can't think what on earth I was doing earlier in the week? Clearly it wasn't memorable *lol*

Thankfully I have managed to put together three of my FWS blocks, and here they are:

Block 75 - Rosebud

Block 90 - Storm Signal

Block 85 - Square Dance

Block Total: 74

If I feel up to it, I may be able to make two more blocks tonight. That would have me on target for this week. I'm not going to pressure myself - I'm really quite out of sorts. One of my grandparents passed away yesterday, and obviously we're all very upset.

I worked on a little knitting yesterday as we travelled to visit with Puppa, and while we spent time in the hospital room. These socks have been in progress for some time, and I'll forever remember that I worked on them while I said goodbye.

Latest Rail Fence Blocks

Over the last two evenings I made up some more rail fence blocks for the block exchange Linda, Donna and I are having fun with. I made fifteen blocks total, five each for the three of us. They go together very quickly, and though I'm using my 10" squares from Somerset Patchwork & Quilting, I know they'd make great scrap-busters too.

My favourite colour combination this time is the pink and black block in the middle at the back. I seem to have used a lot of darker fabrics this time - I'll have to use some more mid toned fabrics in my next blocks.

Most likely I'll be back to the Farmers Wife blocks this evening, must keep pushing on! Chatter soon xox

This week's FWS blocks

Here are my five Farmers Wife blocks. All simply pieced, no foundations or freezer paper. It's nice to do a little easy piecing from time to time.

Block 64 - Peace & Plenty

Block 70 - Prairie Queen

Block 72 - Railroad

Block 89 - Steps to the Altar

Block 98 - Waterwheel

Block Total: 71

I'm so glad I managed to get all five blocks for this week done - I wasn't sure I could do it. This afternoon I need to get to the grocery store, and once my chores are done, there still may be some stitching time left this evening. If that happens, I'll work on some more rail fence blocks. I'm so pleased with how much I've achieved this week!

Mrs Billings - One side attached

I was determined to keep working at 'block four' until I could attach one side. It's amazing how motivated you can be when it feels like a goal is approaching. I'm loving it so far, what do you think?

Now I must get some Farmers Wife blocks made, or I'll never make my quota for this week. Chatter soon! :-)

More Mrs Billings

There is still so much piecing to do, but it's fun to lay the pieces out to see how it will look ...

Should have used the regular camera ... this phone picture is blurry. But you get the idea :-)

Mrs Billings - Block 4

I'm piecing away on the next Mrs Billings section. It's going to take some time, but it's really fun playing around with the fabric placement. It'll be so exciting when this piece is big enough to attach to the centre!

FWS - Four Blocks

Friday during the day, and this evening I finished four more Farmers Wife blocks to make up my quota of five for the week. Looks like during busy weeks, five blocks (and nothing else) is all I'll be able to achieve :-)

Block 35 - Flower Basket

Block 56 - Maple Leaf

Block 58 - Mother's Dream

Block 108 - Windmill

Block Total: 66

Today was the get together of a lil' bunch of Farmers Wife stitchers at Loz's house. It's always such a lovely day (afternoon for me - being a serial latecomer) with such fun girls. Of course, I didn't remember to take any pictures, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for updates and give you links as they pop up.

Tomorrow is Mother's day, and sadly (for me, but not for them) my Mum is holidaying in Vietnam, and my MIL is holidaying in Europe. I won't be able to visit with them to spread the love, but I have a feeling there are things afoot here. The kids have been scuttling about secretly ... so I'm looking forward to to whatever tomorrow brings. Happy Mothers Day to all the wonderful Mum's out there! xox

FWS - A Few Rows

Last night I added a row to the tiny portion I'd already put together. It always feels like such an achievement to get a row attached, but when I lay it out, it never looks like that much has been gained.

I thought while the light is reasonable this morning I'd also audition my border fabrics. Perhaps it's too early to tell, but I think I'm happy with them ... I may change the red inner border out for the biscuit coloured fabric. But I'm a LONG way from having to make that kind of decision :-)

FWS - Block 82

Though I haven't had much time to sew this week, last night I managed to get another FWS block put together. Now all of the blocks are finally completed to add the next row.

Block 82 - Spider Legs

It wasn't my favourite block to work on, but I'm so glad it's finished. One of the nice things was being able to use up some of the tiny scraps for the little 'leg' pieces.

I'm feeling like Mrs Billings could use some attention over the next few days, but it would also be nice to get the next FWS row attached ... who knows what I'll end up working on this evening? It's anyone's guess!

Block Total: 62

FWS Blocks 67, 91 &106

Late last night I finished putting three more blocks together - which makes my allocation of five for the week. Yay! One small thing ... I'm not sure where my own personal FWS week starts and ends *lol* Do I have to begin a new five blocks tomorrow?!? *lol* Do not let me get hung up on details :-) It's a guide not a rule, right?
Block 67 - Pine Tree

Block 91 - Strawberry Basket

Block 106 - Wild Rose & Square

Block Total: 61

No more Farmers Wife-ing for me today - I have a trip to the grocery store planned, some chores, visitors, and if I'm lucky maybe a little machine quilting this evening. Chatter soon friends :-)

FWS - Blocks 32 & 51

Last night I got two blocks made from my quota of five for the week. Hopefully I'll be able to get three more made today. If I can complete even more blocks it'll lighten my load toward the end :-)

Block 32 - Farmer's Daughter

Block 51 - Hovering Birds

I've already started working on Block 67 - Pine Tree - lots and lots of 1" HST's - very fun. I'll check back in soon :-)

FWS Collage

Just for giggles I put together a collage of the FWS blocks I've made so far. How fun to see them all together like this - really gives me some idea about how the quilt will ultimately look. I like it!

I was thinking about this project as I was trying to get to sleep last night, and realised that if I want to meet my self imposed deadline, I will need to make at least five blocks per week. That realisation really put things in perspective for me ... I must get busy!

This is gunna take a while ...

I've been seeing my friends working on their Mrs Billings projects this week, and as my Quilters ADD dictates, it has prompted me to get busy on mine again :-)

I'm up to 'block four' which is a huge pieced diamond and triangle border. Hundreds and hundreds of pieces. As I said, this could take a while :-)

And in other news, be sure to check out my friend Linda's blog, she has shared a picture of our friend Donna's rail fence block progress. She's doing great!

Peta's Farmers Wife Top

On Tuesday I was working at the store, and the lovely Peta was running a class in the afternoon. She had brought in the best show and tell, especially for me!

This is Peta's Farmers Wife top, isn't it amazing? (Please disregard haphazard angle and bad photography) :-)

You know the most amazing part of this top? Peta put the blocks together in 5 weeks, and then assembled the top over the Easter weekend. Amazing!

Peta is adorable, and I've known her for the longest time, she taught me to quilt when I was first starting out, around 20 years ago. Time certainly flies :-)
